Ten things that make for heavenly places on Earth

The most heavenly parts of our lovely planet in my experience have involved the following features

  1. They are located near or within mountain areas that have sufficient level or very gradually sloped ground for habitation
  2. Are green and  include both large areas of trees as well as open grassland and some rocky areas, The portion with trees have a lush undergrowth so not much soil is visible
  3. Have bodies of fresh water such as lakes, streams etc.
  4. Has a habitation that is not too dense and buildings that are no higher than four stories, most less so that lifts are not required
  5. Have a climate that is not too harsh for any significant portion of the year so that one may live without air-conditioners or central heating but just some clothing and minimal local environmental control such as a room heater or a fan.
  6. Are sufficiently prosperous so that buildings are not too dilapidated or broken down in the main
  7. Have adequate town or city administration to prevent chaos on streets and  maintain sanitation
  8. Have a regular supply of good quality drinking water and reliable 24 x7 electricity supply
  9. Can access a variety of modern services as available in big cities of the time within an hour or so of travel
  10. Most of all it has people who live in peace with each other and do not create chaos and disturbance for others

Not very many places in the world meet this criterion but there are some that do. Do you know of one reader? In the meantime if the place you live in meets the majority of criterion one should consider oneself very fortunate. Nainital is a town that meets most of these criteria although it is failing on a few counts in recent decades. It is up to those who love Nainital to work towards meeting these goals.
