A Magical Mantra Recital of Nainital

Among the various single word mantras for meditation and chanting, the divine name Ram is one of the most excellent and easiest to practice.

In my mystic travels through Nainital District in the summer of 2007, I learnt a particularly beautiful and rhythmic way to recite this mantra. Its effects were magical. Some of those effects have been described by me in another blog devoted to spirituality. This recitation was recently recorded by me in three YouTube videos so as to make them available to any interested person. One of them is as shown with this post.

Ancient records describe that Ram was also the favorite mantra of Lord Hanuman a divinity revered highly in Nainital, India and all over East Asia. Ancient recorded descriptions of Hanuman ji vary from nation to nation. It is because, no human can fully know or understand the divine and therefore all human words about Him and His Angels are approximate attempts. However, through love and devotion, one can sense His love as also of His Angels as well as the blessings in one’s heart. One may experience magical effects in physical life.

One can find an exhaustive summary about Lord Hanuman and his worship throughout India and East Asia in Wikipedia. Our Universe is inhabited with many different life forms and humans are neither the most evolved nor the only intelligent life form in the universe. There is greater description of this from a scientific standpoint in another blog of mine. It is only limited knowledge and ego of humans that make some think they are the only intelligent race in the universe. Even on Earth different intelligent races have appeared in past. One of them as per literature was the Vanar race. It is now extinct. This race had some characteristics similar to humans including the ability of speech like humans and some similar to monkeys that included a tail as well as some of the physical characteristics of monkeys. The Divine Hanuman to appear on Earth was born in this race.

The impact of any mantra woul differ somewhat from person to person since each personality is unique with its own storehouse of unique experiences. For me this mantra appears to drive consciousness towards divine parts of the created universe as compared to another single word Supreme mantra,  Om, that for me drives consciouness towards the eternal infinite consciousness.

The Goddesses Nanda and Sunanda of Kumaon

S ome of the earliest mentions of divine Nanda and Sunanda are found in ancient Sanskrit texts. It cannot be confirmed if these references have any connection with more recent worship of these goddesses in Kumaon region but they deserve mention for the probable origin of these glorious goddesses. The Bhāgavata Purāna also known as Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, is one of the Puranic texts of Sanskrit literature. It includes  many stories well known in Vedic tradition. The text credits Veda Vyasa, the revered ancient sage, with its authorship. Here is a verse from this text,  “ Also, Srutadeva, Uddhava and others, Nanda, Sunanda and other leaders of liberated souls who are constant companions of the Lord ” Canto 1 Chapter 14 According to this verse, Nanda and Sunanda are close to the eternal lord with the same position as the highest of Angels of the Lord and amongst the leaders of liberated souls that are constantly engaged in serving God. Encounter with a Himalayan Mystic – Baba Haidakhan or Babaji

I t was early eighties. I was then an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Delhi. I had rented an apartment a few kilometers away from IIT, at a place known as Masjid Moth (DDA Flats). The Abode of Shiva

M ount Kailash situated in Tibet  is regarded as the abode of Shiva-Shankar who was charged with the spirit of the formless and infinite Almighty known by many Hindus as Shiva. Lake Mansarovar, the largest fresh water lake of the Himalayan region is situated at the foot of this mountain. It is situated to the north-east of Nainital District. The Rightful recognition of Nanda Devi East as Sunanda Devi

Nanda Devi and Sunanda Devi I t was described in the last post that the goddesses Nanda and Sunanda occur together in mythology and worship. Nanda goddess means the Bliss giving goddess whereas Sunanda means the good bliss giving goddess. One may wonder why the prefix good is added to Sunanda when in fact Nanda is the more active and senior goddess.
